My sister has been handed a new platform, becoming an advocate for her newly diagnosed Multiple Sclerosis. With so much negativity surrounding the diagnosis, Courtney of all people has found confidence in knowing she now has the opportunity to become a role model for those with MS, giving them someone to look to as she continues her career. She is showing all that not one diagnosis can define anybody as she is a professional dancer first, sister second, daughter third and somewhere in the background she has MS.
Courtney has always been quite a role model for me and I’m sure for many others. She is an absolute ball of fire and trust me when i tell you, you will get burned if you try and put her light out. I once wrote a paper for school on how proud i was of her and to this day nothing has changed. My family is incredible and i wouldn’t trade any one of them for anything in this world. Although, i wish my brother wouldn’t eat everything in my fridge and i wish my sister wouldn’t turn the house upside-down every time she came home, i know that we have a bond that nobody can break.
I am not the least bit concerned about Courtney, if anybody can kick the shit out of this disease, its her. Newsday articles have been published, interviews have been had and yet given this platform i know she wants more than that; to affect somebody with MS and give them a brighter outlook on this disease is what she strives for the most. As she continues to “WOW” everyone and brighten every stage she dances on, i know there will be people saying “Look at her, she has MS too.” Though not the way most would hope, being given the opportunity to change lives is a blessing.
Most say ignorance is bliss. I don’t think were talking about the same bliss. The definition of bliss is; (Noun) 1. Perfect Happiness; Great Joy. 2. Something Providing Such Happiness. To me, awareness is bliss. The more aware you are of a situation the better chance you have in finding some sort of happiness. Ignorance is stupidity. After reading into MS, i’ve learned so many things, there are many different kinds that hold various levels of intensity. I also came to learn that treatment of MS is leaps and miles beyond what it once was.
The MS Society has welcomed my sister with open arms making her feel comfortable in adapting to this new lifestyle. In a hopeless situation they have helped her find some hope. Please join Courtney and the rest of my family in raising awareness as we raise money to help fight this debilitating disease. Before you lit up people’s television screens and became a G-List celebrity, you were my “big” sister & without question one of the BIGGEST pains in the asses that i am blessed to have. I wish I could make it out to LA this weekend to join you during this walk but know that I am always in support of you. I hope the walk is an incredible success and I know that you will continue to amaze people, including me.
